Sometimes it really is the little things.
The last few weeks, I've been going through 'a rough patch'. This sort of thing is not really anything new. Heath issues pop up; emotional issues start taking up your time and your energy;minor personal problems become paramount.
For a rather nominal amount, I have arranged to have my florist Shirley surprise me with a bouquet for my kitchen every Friday. Shirley is a talented florist and a lovely woman. I return all over her vases to keep her prices (and charges to me) reasonably low.
There is something about having a lovely fresh floral arrangement that pleases me.
I also have manicures and pedicures at least once a month. This is no longer a luxury to me, but a necessity. I just don't feel "finished" unless my talons are done!
I sometimes feel guilty for spending money on me. And then I think, "Whoa! I'm not taking money from anyone else and if these things make me feel good, why not?" Yes, I could donate every extra dime I have to charity, but if I'm not happy, I don't feel very charitable either.
I think it's a win/win situatoin!
I agree completely! When we feel good about ourselves it spills out into the world anyway. So when you think about it that's giving to others, just via a different route. :)
ReplyDeleteBeing a good friend to others is important but so is a little "me time" every once and awhile. When we make ourselves happy we make others happy, right?
ReplyDeleteJohn, I am a good friend. I'm a good neighbor. And I'm a good wife. I'm also a good mother and grandmother. Oh, and I can be a great girlfriend. But I don't feel like doing any of those thinks when I'm in a funk. So, if little luxuries give me a lift, I go for it!
ReplyDeleteSometimes, all it takes is a lovely bouquet to make me feel like I'm back in the swing of things. Sometimes it takes a trip to Paris.
ReplyDeleteThat's a great idea, actually. Luxurious, indulgent, harmless, and pretty much guaranteed to make you feel wonderful.
ReplyDeleteGood for you for treating yourself. As much as we should be kind to others, we should also be kind to ourselves. After all, we are somebody too.
ReplyDeleteWeekly flowers! What a good idea. And if I'm not happy, no one's happy.
ReplyDeleteI'm with you, Jeanie. It doesn't cost a fortune and the flowers really do brighten my day (week, uh, life)!
ReplyDeleteI generally reserve flowers for "occasions", but it's great to make them a part of my day!
ReplyDeleteFlowers really do brighten my mood, Nancy! And once a week is not prohibitive cost wise. Worth every penny!
ReplyDeleteYou have a lovely kitchen! It's the little things we do to pamper ourselves that can keep us feeling positive.
ReplyDeleteHey Linda! Yes, a present to yourself is a lovely gift, even if it's something tiny. And YAY to the flowers! Indigo x
ReplyDeleteI have never had a pedicure...maybe it is time!
ReplyDeleteI love fresh flowers. I don't have tons in my yard anymore, but sometimes I will just go clip greens and make an arrangement. It DOES make all the difference!
The worst thing I do is NOT do for myself. I need to be better at that, because I never feel quite centered.
I need a pedicure so bad! And there's nothing wrong with taking care of yourself! I think everyone should take a little self time out now and then!
ReplyDeleteGo get that pedi, B! It will make you show off your pretty feet in sandals!
ReplyDeleteKatherine, you should have a pedicure! It's relaxing and you will look so great in sandals with your polished toes!
ReplyDeleteI love having a fresh arrangement delivered once a week! But I really give myself lots of presents! Lol!
ReplyDeleteYou have been very quiet. Hope all is well.
ReplyDeleteI've been sadly lacking in inspiration to write. I'm trying to get over it, but I haven't yet. (I'm fine otherwise!)
ReplyDeleteCats must be catered to. You know that. Flowers are not always the best for their little bellies though!
ReplyDeleteyou totally deserve a treat. the flowers are such a great idea!
