Bones and Bewildement

About 3 weeks ago, I fell face first on to concrete while working in the garden.

My split lip and puffed nose and black eyes have healed up pretty much.  My fractured metacarpal bones in my hand will take longer.

Using a keyboard with one hand is very hard for me.  As soon as this gets better I will be back to explain how it all happened, and the things I have learned since my accident.

Yes bras can be put on with one hand if you slide them up already fastened over your feet and up your legs.  The only problem I can see is that if my butt gets any bigger at all, this will not be an option.

Woe is me!  But I will be back!

  2. Wow, that was a really nasty fall. I noticed it had been 3 weeks since you posted and wondered where you were. Sorry it wasn't some tropical paradise with handsome natives waiting on your every whim. I hope you heal quickly.

  7. Dang, Linda. Sorry to hear that. You're on your road to recovery, is the important thing. And your sense of humor is still intact, so you'll be back in full form soon. Take care.

  8. Sliding that bra up your body has conjured up an image, Linda. You may have come up with a new dance craze! Stay out of the garden, eh.

  9. Linda, sweetheart, I'm so sorry. And also, very impressed! I'm not sure I could ever slide my bra up over my butt, even if I had two hands and a tub of vaseline.

  10. It sucks to crash and burn. So sorry you're still laid up. Have Alex install that voice-type software so you can just speak into the computer. Hope you're up and poll-dancing again soon, my friend. Hugs.

  11. Oh, dear me! Except for that bra thing --- mine are never unfastened. I always just slip them over my head like another dang shirt.

  12. Do you use that vaseline with the whip?

  13. I'm glad you're mending and the hell with the bras! You can pull off going braless and I'm sure Alex isn't going to complain :-)

  14. You need to buy "Dragon, Naturally Speaking" so we can hear everything that happened!!!!

Things that are hard to do with one hand. Typing. Cooking. Toothbrushing. Makeup... and yes... wiping?

I am so sorry, and I hope you aren't in pain!!!

  21. They're so much easier to take off one-handed, aren't they?

You are very much in my thoughts (I've just been avoiding blogs for awhile). I can't imagine how you're managing to stay sane out of your routine. So many of the wonderful things you enjoy are damn near impossible to safely do with one hand.

  22. I'm pretty sick of this Cheryl. And I'm scared to death of injuring my right hand. This has been a mess!

  38. So sorry about your hand! I broke the same bone in college while playing basketball. Do all your therapy and work on all the excerises your doctor gives you. I know it aches like a toothache, but it will get better! Dwight(miss you)

  39. Thank you Dwight! I got the cast taken off today. The bone is healed. Good news! The bad news is I have nerve damage in my hand. Damn!

Wow. You know, falling face first on concrete is really not recommended, but I guess you know that now. OUCH.

I do feel for you. A number of years ago I had rotator cuff surgery and couldn't use my right arm at all for six weeks, and it was about a year before I got full use back without truckloads of pain. I know all about trying to use a keyboard with one hand - particularly frustrating when you're a touch typist!

I hope those metcarpals heal fast and you're as good as new in no time.

  41. Thanks Jay! I got the cast off yesterday, (good news!), but discovered I've got nerve damage in my hand (bad news). Oy vey! What are you gonna do!
