The Color Purple

What were they thinking?

My neighborhood has just taken a huge property value hit.  When you look at this house, don't you have to think that insane people must live there?

This is not an ugly house.  But to paint any house with a color scheme of purple and bright taxi-cab yellow is simply a crime.

I shudder every time I look out my window.  The outrageous color scheme makes me feel violated and violent at the same time.

The house is directly across the street from me.  I'm thinking about only going out my back door and climbing the fence to avoid looking at it.

Most of my neighbors haven not commented on the house.  Maybe I'm the only one bothered by this monstrosity.

Or it could be that this is just a dream.

  1. I sure hope it's a dream. Otherwise, I'm picturing Hansel and Gretel roasting in an oven.

  3. It was a nightmare! But it wasn't in my neighborhood, thank goodness!

  4. Ummmm are you sure it isn't YOUR house and you are just testing us???

It's funny, most of the beach houses in Corolla/OBX are fairly normal colors... but every once in a while you come across one painted JUST LIKE THAT. Or hot hot pink.... it is so funny!

  5. I've seen a little bit of everything on this island, but this might take the cake, Katherine. I hate to see nice houses painted garish colors. I mean, if it was your next door neighbor, you'd hate it! I would too!

  6. Real sorry to hear about this. It does look like something that would be in a movie. Pretty colors really but it doesn't work for a house. Good luck climbing that fence.

  7. Wow. That certainly is... eye-catching. With a house that colour, you don't even need a civic address anymore. Just address all mail to big-ass purple house, CA. It'll get there.

  8. That looks like something straight out of a cartoon. I love the idea of you climbing fences in order to avoid seeing that eyesore. It gave me a good laugh. :)

  9. That is really the strangest paint job I've ever seen. I would actually love to ask the owner why they chose it!

  10. That looks ridiculous. Seriously. BLECH. And purple is my favorite color. But NOT on this house, and not like that! Yikes!

  11. It's pretty awful, Meleah. I'm just glad it's not on my street!

  12. I mean, Cheryl, are they color blind? That is so jarringly ugly that I can't even imagine what the people were thinking!

  13. Holy Moly! Isn't there some sort of code in your historical neighborhood which prevents this desecration? I am a strong believer in personal choice and personal freedoms, but this infringes on your personal life. No way! Organize a picket line. Crap.

  14. Malisa, this isn't really in my neighborhood. If it was, I think I would sue the homeowners.

  15. You're right... that's horrible! There's a house not far from me that's bright yellow... another travesty! Homes should be soothing respites, not garish monstrosities!

  16. This make me have heart palpitations. Again, what were they thinking?
