Getting To The Bottom of It All

Yesterday was October 1st.

I expected it to be a day much like any other day.  Boy!  Was I wrong!

First off, I got up and walked downstairs without shoes to the kitchen.  A place in my foot on the bottom next to my heel hurt like a summa-bitch but I kind of ignored it.  I put on shoes and figured the pain would go away.  It sort of did as long as I was wearing my 3" heel platform shoes.

Yesterday was very hot.  I melt when it gets to be over 67 degrees and it hit 90 degrees here.  We have no air conditioning.  We live in Northern California for heaven's sake.  Didn't Mark Twain say the coldest winter he ever experienced was a summer in San Francisco?  I turned on the fan in the office and sat down to check my email and visit Michael WJ and Ziva.  Both of these bloggers have joined in having a 30 Day of Photos Non-Competition.  Michael and Ziva are a couple of my favorite bloggers, and favorite people for that matter.  Many of the bloggers participating in this challenge are not only wonderful bloggers but great photographers.  I was really looking forward to seeing what they all had contributed.

But first things first.  I wanted to look at my emails and see the comments on my own blog.  (I'm a little self-centered, I admit it.)  Much to my surprise, I had no comments, not even one.  In fact I had no comments for over 2 and 1/2 years of blogging.  In fact, there wasn't even a place to leave a comment on my blog.  What's worse, I went to look at the photo blogs posted by other bloggers yesterday and I couldn't comment on any of them if they were "Disqus" powered sites.  Double damn!

I know enough to know that something was rotten in Disqus land.  But what?  Here it is hot as hell, I have a painful foot, and I can't get the blog stuff to work at all.  Fortunately, my rocket scientist husband would be home after work and he could "fix" it.  (Alex can fix anything!  Just ask him!)

Since the computer was useless at this point, I watched hours of CNN while realizing that it was getting so hot in the house I felt ready to faint.  The only thing I could think of to do is take a nap.  But wait, it was too hot to sleep.  I wandered in to get some ice out of the kitchen, but I had pulled off my shoes when I got on the bed.  Ouch!  I nearly collapsed with the pain in my foot!  This was no joke!  There is something wrong!  In fact, there are a few things wrong!  I was feeling horrible from the heat.  I can't read or comment on blogs, and my right foot is screwed up.  Plus, my favorite pair of cords either shrunk or my butt had gotten bigger almost over night.

Alex (my husband, the genius, or as we call him, "El Jefe"), came home.  He was unable to fix whatever was going on with my blog.  To add insult to injury, the heat had intensified to 95 degrees.  And my foot still hurt.  It was too hot to sit around trying to fix my blog thingy, so I told Alex to forget it.

I got into bed grumpy and got up even more grumpy.  I thought about calling a foot doctor but then I decided I wasn't dying yet, so I'd wait a few more days.

Miracles do happen.  The blog thing comments started working again.  The forecast says "cooler tomorrow", and my foot is still attached (even if painfully) to my leg.  My cords have stretched out again.

Life is good.  Well, sort of.

  1. You wear shoes inside your house?  We take ours off at the door - no way are those germs going to get all over my carpet.  I get mad as hell at my eventually-to-be-ex as he refuses to take his shoes off when he comes over here.  Anyway - hope your foot stays on again tomorrow.  :)

  2. Oh dear, you had a very trying day! I'm so glad most of the issues are resolved, you really should see a doctor about the foot, though, especially if it gets even worse. I wish my pants would stretch out again as easily as yours did... ;)

  3. Hope today goes better.  It's nasty hot and humid as hell here, but Saturday it's supposed to be 67 degrees, so there's hope.  We HAVE to have AC here and my husband and I have AC wars everyday - he thinks I don't see him sneaking around the corner and pushing it up to 78 but my body tells me the second it goes over 72.  He'll never win.  Did your foot just start hurting or have you had problems with it before?  My mom just had a bone spur removed after putting up with foot pain (and ignoring it) for months.

  4. The Disqus land thing wasn't just you, it was a lot of Blogspot blogs. I'm glad it's fixed now 'cause life just doesn't make sense until I can comment on your post. And I'm pretty sure the heat caused your cords to shrink, but only because the universe heard our (my) pleas for you to show off your curves. :-)

Please get your foot checked out. We won't be able to tango together if your foot falls off.

  5. I see your comments came back & you didn't have to jump through 16 million hoops with the geniuses over at Disqus like I did. Grumble grumble grumble.

I know you're a minimalist when it comes to doctors but for the love of Nicky & the tango, please go get your foot checked?

  6. Yeah, you must've fixed it. For awhile, I couldn't comment on your blog using Internet Explorer. I can now, thankfully.

And who took that photo of your fanny? You're a hot to trot mama.

  7. Comment love!  (I was shocked to hear you were walking downstairs without heels... sacrilege!)

  8. What a day! I hope your foot problem is not plantar fasciitis...it's a pain in the butt, oh you already have a pain there, too lol! I see the rocket scientist figured this out so I could leave a message...isn't it good to have him back home?

  9. Oh mannn! You gotta get that gorgeous husband of yours to give you a foot massage! I hope it has gotten cooler, and you do NOT have a big butt! Your boobs however are a wonderfully different story!

  10. Life is good, though it has lots of bumps.  Hope my comment comes up.

Anyway, take care of your foot.  Make life even better.  Please take care.

  11. Damn, Linda. Now that is one hellova crappy day! I

I'm glad the comments are fixed, and that you have cooler temps on the way!

PS: Please get your foot checked out!

  12. My butt should look that good!

    Get that foot checked out!

  13. I think I've got plantar fasciitis and from what I've read, thre really isn't much in the way of treatment.  It sounds like kind of a marketing thing where you buy a bunch of stuff and maybe it goes away.  But it might go away anyway.  I'll wait a bit.

I have a rather big butt, but fortunately I married a man who likes big butts.

  14.  Things are getting better.  I'll wait a bit on the foot to see if it gets better or worse.  Foot doctors seem a bit like psychics to me.

    ReplyDelete
  15.  Thanks Myra!  I think I'll be fine.  My computer and comments are working and the heat is breaking.  I probably have plantar fasciitis and that's pretty common.  No real "treatment" except ordering a bunch of pads for your shoes.

    ReplyDelete
  16.  Actually, the comments thing fixed itself.  Alex took credit for it, but it all came back without him doing anything.  I'm still glad he's home though.  I think plantar fasciitis is exactly what this is.  I didn't see that there was really much in the way of treatment from looking on line.

    ReplyDelete
  17.  I know, right?  As long as I keep my high heels on, I should be fine.

    ReplyDelete
  18.  I think I'll be fine, Cheryl.  I just need to keep my heels on.

Disqus is a pain in the ass.  Alex really didn't do anything.  It fixed itself.  They even sent me an email saying "a small number of users" were inconvenienced.  Uh, yeah.  Okay.

    ReplyDelete
  19.  Oh Sweetie.  Remember that tango in "Frieda"?  That will be just like us!  I'm okay if I keep my heels on.

    ReplyDelete
  20.  The foot went kywacky all at once.  I think it's plantar fasciitis and it's uncomfortable but not life threatening.  I'll wait a bit to see what happens.  I'm actually fine in shoes.  I might poison a husband who made my house too hot.  I'm just saying...

    ReplyDelete
  21. Okay, I will let you slide, for now.

  22.  I'm really feeling very positive about life this morning.  It's not as hot.  My comments are working fine.  My foot feels okay in heels. My pants are tight but not hoochie-tight. Life is good.

  23.  Darling Mariann, I can't imagine walking around anywhere without my shoes.  If I can't wear my shoes, I just won't go.  What is the point of dressing in something darling and putting on the perfect pair of red stilettos to set off your outfit and then leaving the damn shoes at the door destroying the whole look.  Never!

  24.  I think maybe a psychic would be helpful.  Maybe!

  25. So tell me, how was the play?

I had the same trouble with DISQUS.  Actually, I've never been able to leave comments on it until I tried a different browser.  It works for me with Firefox, but not Safari (which is my browser of choice) - grrr!!

  26. I am trying to catch up today with comments and didn't realize your comment section was down. Hope you are having a much cooler day today minus any foot pain. Here in the middle of the country, if I didn't have a mega sized central air, I would just become a puddle of goo.

    ReplyDelete
  27. That's some ass-umption you made about the jeans. They look fine to me. Hope your foot gets better. Otherwise in future discourse you may not have a leg to stand on.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Hey Linda! I must admit I'm not a fan of DISQUS, especially since it's blocked at the office. Morons. Still, I hope the heel is on the mend, and that this finds you in better form x Indigo

  29. I'm feeling the heat with ya, but at least here in Sacramento I have a/c.  I'm going to San Francisco this weekend, where I'm trusting it'll be cooler, even though there's a gazillion things going on in The City this weekend and they're expecting a million visitors.  The foot thing: Do you think it's plantar fasciatis (sp)?  And ever since Disqus changed formats, I've had trouble with them.  I'm never notified of new comments anymore.  I figured it was something I was doing wrong, since I'm far from a computer expert.

    ReplyDelete
  30.  I think I've got that plantar stuff.  Still, I'm pretty sure I'll live.

We are going to the City on Saturday for a late lunch with friends.  It's supposed to be much cooler, thank goodness.  Disqus is fine until there's something wrong and then it becomes a pain!

Try and catch the Blue Angels show ehile you are here.

    ReplyDelete
  31.  Thanks Dufus.  Alex thinks my big butt is fine too.  We'll see what happens with the foot.  Hopefully, not much!

    ReplyDelete
  32.  I thought you had typed "Mormons" and I was wondering if you worked for a religious organization.  Morons are every religion.

    ReplyDelete
  33.  The Blue Angels is exactly why I go to SF every Columbus Day weekend.  Before my daughter changed jobs, she worked in a state office on the wharf and we'd go on the roof and literally get a bird's eye view of the show.  We can still see a little bit of their flying from her apartment, though, so that's a good thing.

  34. Linda, I am so glad your world order was restored. Seriously, I got anxious just reading about your day. And, I will not post a comment competing with your pain. I think a girl deserves her own time. Although, I have no sympathy for you when it comes to the weather given our summer lasts from March until November. Honey, in that department, welcome to the south in September.

I think next time this occurs a cold margarita would be in order.

    ReplyDelete
  35. And, Disqus does not seem to be working for me either!!!

    ReplyDelete
  36. Some days our moon is just in feces.  Sucks, doesn't it?   ;)

    ReplyDelete
  37.  Yup.  Some days you eat the bear.  Well, I forget how the rest of that goes.  But that about sums it up.

    ReplyDelete
  38.  Hells Fire, Annie.  The Margaritas were just the beginning.  They were followed by gin and tonics and then icy vodka. The only thing that was missing is a mint julep!  The South is someplace a sane person only visits in the winter.  Why do you think you Southern women get the vapors all the time?  I only suffer from vapors on cue.  Mama taught me how to faint like a lady. Too bad she taught me to do it on City streets.

    ReplyDelete
  39.  Ann Honey, that's such a bummer.  No lie!  I feel your pain and your vapors this morning.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Maybe that explains my Mama's proclivity for the bottle. But, the south is fun any time - why you just have to know the right folks. I can faint like the best of them, however I don't have much experience on city streets.

    ReplyDelete
  41. If by 'a small number' they mean anyone with a blogspot.com address, I'm fairly certain they're lying liars.

Hope that heel heals soon. (Dear gawd, that's an awkward sentence.)

    ReplyDelete
  42.  Oh hell, I hope the heel heals soon too!  I love that sentence!

    ReplyDelete
  43.  Ann, for the "street faint", you may need a little Northern Exposure!

  45. Stretching, anti inflammatories, and shoeinserts are about it...give a little relief not much. Some days it's worse than others.

    ReplyDelete
  46.  I'm really a whole lot better.  I used ice packs (ouch) twice a day for a week and no more pain!
