I'm A Gucci Girl In A Payless World

My birthday is on Monday.

Now, I'm not saying that I expect gifts from Gucci or Prada.  I realize the economy is not doing that great.  I even realize that we may be looking at a severely cut Defense budget and that our income comes directly from the Defense budget.

But I'll be damned if I think it makes any sense that I have to receive plastic shoes from Payless as a birthday gift.

My husband is crying about the increased taxes.  He's crying about the Defense budget and how it impacts his line of work.

Excuse me?  Ever heard of a paper route, Alex?  Ever heard of mowing neighbor's lawns on weekends?  Ever heard of Grand Theft Auto?  I mean, come on.

I didn't cause the financial situation.  Why should I have to suffer from it?  I never gave out a shaky loan.  I never did a hinky business deal in my life, (okay, there was that one time, but he had it coming).  All I'm saying is stop moaning about finances and understand that I have some standards.

Cheap ass shoes hurt my feet.  Cheap ass shoes wear out really fast.  Cheap ass shoes make your feet smell like pickles (and not the good kind).  I really don't mind a cotton skirt from good old JC Penneys or Sears and Robuck.  I don't mind a cotton tee shirt from the Gap or Old Navy.

Just please realize that shoes and bags cannot be from Payless.  That's all I'm saying.

  2. Oh Linda! You are so funny! I love this...and yeah, it's your BIRTHDAY for pitty's sake! (My birthday was the 6th.) I think you just missed being a Capricorn, didn't you? Wishing you an early Happy B'day, because I'll probably forget in 5 minutes all about it! LOL

  3.  I feel ya' Mrs. Tuna.  Sucks, huh?  I hear ya!

  4.  Happy Birthday to you, Becky!  I did just miss being a Cap (by one day in fact)!  At my age, I forget everything in 5 minutes!  But we still look good and hell's bells, that's all that matters.

  5.  Birthdays require far better than Payless.  I am fussy about my shoes as most of them hurt my feet.  Good shoes are a must.  If I don't talk to you before Monday...HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!

  6. Amen!  One of my few retail splurges is good shoes - just bought a pair of Joan & David pumps ($100+) with my Christmas Macy's gift card from Mr. VZ.

Hope to see ya at the 30M2D writing challenge!

  7. Linda, I love you.  And you're right, you deserve more than Payless.  Life is too short to wear cheap shoes.  It's a motto I live by.

  8. He wouldn't!! He couldn't!!! He MUSN'T!!!! But if he does, start buying all his clothes at WalMart.

Btw, I LOVE that picture. Happy 5 days until your birthday, hon!

  9. Somehow I can't picture Alex ever setting foot in a Payless. Happy Birthday!

Yeah, Alex!! Get it together! Linda needs a new pair of REAL shoes!!

PS: HAPPY EARLY BIRTHDAY!!!!!! I love you, big sis! XOXOXO

  11.  Well, I may not NEED them, but that doesn't mean I don't WANT them!  Thanks, Baby Sister!  I love you too!

  12.  Naw, Nicky.  He wouldn't do that.  But just to be sure he wouldn't, I made sure he read this post.  It's my birthday month so I'm doing no cooking until February.  Life is good!

  13.  I love you too Meg!  I really don't mind inexpensive clothes at all.  But I draw the line with the shoes and bags.  It's the two places I won't "compromise".  And it's not about the name on the label either.  I don't want to wear an advertisement for anybody on my stuff.  I just want high quality.  In other words, knock off's don't do it for me at all.

  14.  I'm with you, Tami.  Good shoes are a must to me too.  I'll buy an occasion dress at a resale shop without hesitation,  I'll buy something cute and summery to wear to a picnic from Target.  But give me good shoes and bags.  It's not too much to expect!

I won't be doing the challenge.  My creative juices have dried up on me.  But I'll come and visit the crew this time.

  15.  Cheryl, I'm a shoe whore, plain and simple.  It's all about the shoes.  Thanks for the Birthday wish!  I love birthdays.  Getting older?  Not so much.

  16. Amen, Sister!  When I go into Payless Shoes, which is very infrequently, my eyes start watering from the plastic smell of the shoes.  True story.

I hope you have a fantastic birthday!  Pay attention, Alex.

  17.  I got some sparkly "princess" shoes at Payless for one of the grand-daughters when they were small.  Sort of a weird place.

    ReplyDelete
  18. I absolutely feel you on that. My feet got to aching just by looking at those shoes. And tell Alex to stop moaning. Or is he wearing Payless shoes?

    ReplyDelete
  19. Hope you had a fabulous birthday full of fabulous shoes and cake!

  20. You crack me up. I can pretty much guarantee you'll never be seen in a cheap ass pair of shoes, or flats for that matter!

    ReplyDelete
  21. There are three things you never skimp on - Never buy cheap linens, cheap shoes, or cheap aluminum foil. A man would never understand. Well, that is until he sleeps with a woman on cheap sheets and gives her a pair of cheap shoes. Then he'll learn. Somethings they just don't get it. Oh, now if they grill, the aluminum foil is a whole 'nuther issue. Don't expect them to lower their standards and have to use cheap foil.

  22. I hear ya!  I've been in Payless.  Now I'm all for a good buy, but I didn't see anything in there I would take home...at any price.

    Happy Birthday Month!!! :)

    ReplyDelete
  23.  Thanks, Linda!  Yeah, Payless is not the best for shoes unless you want sparkles on them for a Halloween Princess costume.

    ReplyDelete
  24.  Linens have to be wonderful.  I have a collection of antique table linens that I totally treasure.  It's worth the hand laundering and so on to use them because they are so beautiful.  I always get the best sheets I can afford to buy because let's face it, sleeping on cheap cheats is a bummer.  I love great bags too.  They make everything else look good.

    ReplyDelete
  25.  Thank you, Lady Fi.  I'm doing the best I can.

    ReplyDelete
  26.  I don't actually own any flats, but if I did, they'd be good ones.  Do you remember the trend of women wearing tennis shoes with their business suits and carrying their high heels in their bags to and from the office.  Shoot!  That was the tackiest thing I ever saw.  If you can't walk in heels, wear a good looking pair of flats, but I cannot for the life of me understand somebody getting dressed up and putting on a pair of tennis shoes.  (No, I don't play tennis and don't own tennis shoes either!)

  27. I haven't been in a payless or any other shoe store since I discovered Zappos.com.  Awesome.....(sing song voice)!

    ReplyDelete
  28. LOVE the title.  Somebody should write a song using it, I'm sure it'd catch on.

    ReplyDelete
  29.  Dude, where have you been?  I've been worried about you.  That "Sandy" business was such a nightmare and you disappear at the same time.  I hope you and yours are fine.  Maybe we could incorporate that title into the Country Western song I wrote called "You Said You Were Jogging But You Were Just Running Around".

    ReplyDelete
  30. Wish we could celebrate our birthdays together. Hope to sip wine with you in 2013. xox

    ReplyDelete
  31. You really do get what you pay for in this world.  I love the title, too!

    ReplyDelete
  32.  Nora, shoes and bags are the only places I splurge.  Everything else, I can be a total cheapskate.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Love this title!  Add some melody and you've got a song on the top 10 Country Chart!

    ReplyDelete
  34.  Thanks Joyce.  Maybe Taylor Swift could sing it for us!  I could just throw in some break up stuff about old boyfriends.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Ha! So true...we probably all have something that we insist be top quality. Happy Birthday, Linda.

  44. Linda, I commend this thought to The House. Shoes should be beautiful, well made, and elegant. Oh, and tall. I think we agree on this. Indigo x

    ReplyDelete
  45. Shoes are overrated. We need to go back to our roots. Barefoot! Of course this would suck for me, with it being like 3 degrees out and snow. It could make for a simpler life though!

    ReplyDelete
  46.  Simpler life?  Naw.  A cheaper life?  Oh yeah!

    ReplyDelete
  47.  Finally, a man who understands!  Yup!  You nailed it, Indigo!

    ReplyDelete
  48. He didn't dare?!   And OMFG, those are the most fabulous shoes I've ever seen.  I'm heading over to the Gucci website now.  I wonder if they have layaway.

    ReplyDelete
  49.  Down girl.  Those are from last season.  Payless has something very similar, but made of plastic.

I got rubies and sapphires in white gold.  Not the Payless shoes, or the Gucci pumps.  Never mind.  It's all good.

    ReplyDelete
  50.  Plastic?!   *wretching sounds*   I don't care if they're last season.  I must find them.  Congrats on the bling.  I knew Alex would come through.

Like everybody else, I love that shoe, too. But it would look better with you in it. And I know Alex didn't get you plastic shoes. He's not that kind of man.

    ReplyDelete
  54. Hahaha! Feet smell like pickles!! That made me laugh because I have smelt that WAY too many times. Not from me mind you :)

    ReplyDelete
  55. Also, happy belated birthday and I hope you got everything you hoped/ dreamed for!

    ReplyDelete
  56.  Thank you, Katherine.  I had a lovely birthday and didn't get anything plastic!

Its very well written; I love what youve got to say.
But maybe you could a little more in the way of content so people could
connect with it better. Youve got an awful lot of text for only having one or 2 images.
Maybe you could space it out better?
